Aran is a style of jumper that takes its name from the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland. A traditional Aran sweater is usually off-white in colour, with cable patterns on the body and sleeves.
Originally, Aran sweaters were knitted using unscoured wool that retained its natural oils, making the garments water-resistant and meaning they remained wearable for the fishermen even when wet.
These were known to take 6-8 weeks to knit.
Old style Irish Aran Jumpers and as featured in Vogue magazine in the 1950's.
Locally Knitted in New Zealand
Our Aran jumpers are knitted locally in New Zealand using pure 8-ply merino wool sourced from Woolyarns NZ, renowned worldwide for its superior quality. Treat your little one to the timeless elegance and unparalleled warmth of a hand-knitted Aran sweater.
